So last night it was finally time for WASP to enter Sundsvall Sweden with their 30 years of thunder celebration show, a show wich was divided into three parts. First part with songs old songs from the first four albums, a second part dedicated to The Crimson Idol album, and a third part with new songs and everything in between… or so it was said.
When i first saw the setlist from the show at the tour premiere i was really excited cos it included the songs “Chainsaw charlie”, “The heretic”, “Widowmaker” and “Scream until you like it”. Those songs was only played at the first shows and by the time the tour hit Sweden they were long gong cut out from the setlist, a bit of a dissappointment.
Nevertheless i really liked the show, the band sounded really good (and sure they had some pre-recorded backup vocals etc but who cares!) amd seemed in a good mood.
Other bands that played this night here in Sundsvall at Nordfest was Year Of The Goat wich play melodic satanic pop-metal in the same vain as Ghost and The Devils Blood, it was my first time seeing them but since i really like their EPs they put out so far i really like them live also even though they didn’t quite look the was i expected them to.
Second band on the bill beside WASP we watched was Necrophobic, and they play classic swedish death metal. Now i just managed to see about 3 songs with them since i wanted to get a good position at the WASP show, but from the little i saw it sounded and looked really good.
Here (and the one above) is a few photos i took from the show:
Year Of The Goat
Artist: Year Of The Goat
Title: This Will Be Mine
Label: Van Records
The first single of the bands upcoming, yet untitled, debut album. The album wich will be released late summer/autumn this year through the label Van Records. First time i heard the single i was a bit disappointed, i really liked Year Of The Goat’s debut Ep Lucem Ferre, it was a terrific little piece of vinyl but after listening to the This Will Be Mine single the song slowly grows on me and my expectations for the full lenght album are still very high. On the B-side there is an beautiful instrumental track with some chanting called “Missa niger” wich is supposedly exclusive for this single. The single is released on red vinyl but i am not sure of how many copies.
Side A: This will be mine
Side B: Missa niger
Here is the song “This will be mine”, the first single taken off Year Of The Goat’s debut album due out late summer / spring this year.
Well, it just might be their year. For you who don’t know, Year Of The Goat is a Swedish occult rock band wich released their debut 12″ Lucem Ferre last year, and if you have missed out on that one i highly suggest that you look it up, the vinyl versions are sold out (first pressing on white vinyl, second pressing on purple vinyl) but you can still get the Cd through the bands label Van Records.
I also got a mail earlier today from the bands label where they said that they will release a 7″-single and the bands debut full lenght album on Cd and Vinyl later this year (no releasedate is confirmed), and as that was not enough the band will also play at Nordfest in Sundsvall in October together with Wasp, just about 1 hour drive with car away from where i live so i think it’s fair to say that 2012 is the Year Of The Goat! And i really hope that the full lenght album will live up to the same quality as their debut 12″-Ep.
Sundsvall, Sweden metalfestival Nordfest announced it’s first acts earlier today. Looks like the fesival this year will be split up over two weekends. First weekend is October 12 (Friday) where following bands have been announced Wasp, Necrophobic, Year of the goat and Badmouth. Weekend number two will be held November 16 (Friday) and will have Entombed together with the Nordiska Kammarorkestern, and also Corroded.
More acts will be announced on both dates, check out Nordfest homepage for more information here. I am very exited about Wasp, Year of the goat and offcourse Entombed together with the Nordiska Kammarorkesten.

I don’t think anyone with a smallest bit of interest in underground heavy metal have missed the hype of the retro occult 70’s-stylish rock that have been this couple of year with bands like “The Devil’s Blood”, “Ghost” and “Blood Ceremony” to name a few. So do we need yet another band playing that same theme type of music? Well, if it’s as good as this debut 12″ by “Year of the Goat” it’s more than welcome i think.
If you have heard the other bands i mentioned you know what kind of music you are going to get when you put this on your turntable. It’s doomy dark well played and just beautiful music that rips through your speakers from the first song to the last. The record have 4 songs wich one, the title songs is an instrumental one, and it have the same songs on both A and B side. The band just played their first live show a few weeks back and are right now in the studio to record its full length album, i personally can’t wait to hear it.
The first press of this 12″ was released in 275 copies and on white vinyl, it sold out fairly fast and now there is a second press out on purple (i think i was) vinyl.
