This album have been rotating nonstop on my turntable ever since i got it, i think it’s really brilliant! As the title indicates Nicke Andersson here takes his Imperial State Electric to a more melodic pop vibe, if the debut album was a popish rockĀ album i would say that this album is a bit more rockish pop album if you know what i mean. The vinyl opens up really strong with one of the best track on the album “Uh Huh” wich is a really good tune with hooks and melodies that sticks with you, just plain listening pleasure as always when Nicke is releasing music. And the albums just keeps going from that point on, sure it have a few songs wich isnt that top-notch but overall its a great album, and at this point i must say i like this one better than the debut. My favourite tracks are “Uh Huh”, “Sheltered In The Sand”, The Narrow Line” and “Enough To Break Your Heart”.
The biggest different on this album compare to earlier Imperial State Electric releases is that this time they have recorded the album as a band, and not Nicke doing all the stuff by himself. He simply brought in his touringband to join in with the recodingsessions.
When the art for the cover was first released i wasnt that pleased with it, it looked kinda silly, well it still kind of does, but holding the vinyl infront of you it sure looks very stylish, clean so to speak, delivered in a really nice gatefold sleeve wich have the lyrics and a collage of the band on the inside of the foldout. This version i picked up is the red vinyl limited to 600 copies, the album is also released in clear and black vinyl. And as i couldn’t find any song from the album on YouTube i have added the track “Rock Science” for you to listen to, the track is from the boardgame with the same name. Enjoy!
