Title: Beyond Magnetic
Label: iTunes download
I have been a huge fan of Metallica since how long i can remember, and i still love em as much as i did in my early teen. My favourite period is the early stuff and up until 1986. But still think they deliver good stuff, so when they released this 4 track digital download Ep last week celebrating 30 years of Metallica, let’s just say that christmas came early for me this year.
The songs are previously unreleased leftovers from the “Death Magnetic” album from 2008, these are raw mixes but to be honest i think the sound of there tracks are far superior than to the final mix sound on “Death Magnetic”, it don’t have a too good sound, wich is a shame because the album is the best one Metallica have put out since the 1991 “Black Album”. But enough of that, let’s concentrate on the “Beyond Magnetic” Ep instead.
As said before, the Ep includes 4 previously unreleased songs from 2008, some of the tracks i can understand why they where left off of the album, but a song like “Rebel of babylon” wich is great and could easily fit in on the album without any problems i have no idea why they left off, there are far worse songs that ended up on the “Death Magnetic” album. A song like “Hell train” (lame title i know) reminds alot of the slower songs on Death Magnetic. “Hell and back” is a pretty basic Metallica uptempo riff-o-rama tune. Only track i really don’t like that much on this Ep would be “Just a bullet away”, i don’t know what it is but it just doesn’t do it for me.
The biggest shame about this Ep is that it’s only available as a digital download, as a recordcollector i love to own physical albums, always have and always will. So hopefully they will release it on Cd or Vinyl.
Hate train, Hell and back, Just a bullet away, Rebel of babylon
